La Dolce Far Niente

December 30, 2021

It’s finally freaking here, in just a few days, Day and I will be in Palermo, where we begin our three-month long vacation in Italy!

The basic itinerary is: January in Palermo, February in Florence and March in Rome.

We have a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment (K&J are joining us for 2 weeks) in downtown, historic Palermo. We’re right on Via Vittorio Emanuele, a short walk east-northeast to the water (the Tyrrhenian Sea) or west-southwest to Piazza Quattro Canti, the location could not be more perfect.

The first week and a half we’re in Palermo, we have no plans, we have nothing to do. I cannot begin to tell you, how excited I am about this. As I’m writing this, thinking about this, I’m overwhelmed with excitement, happiness, joy maybe? Day and I are incredibly fortunate. We have wonderful family and friends, have most everything we need, and get to do most everything we want. I am overwhelmed with happiness quite often, and, I’m grateful, but it’s a great feeling, and I want more of it. I guess I’m greedy as well.

I’m looking forward to this trip. I’m looking forward to the slower pace a three month vacation allows you. I’m looking forward to taking photos, posting on Facebook, and of course, writing. I’m looking forward to be overwhelmed with happiness.

The Italians have a phrase, “La Dolce Far Niente,” which means “the sweetness of doing nothing.” Relax, be present, and enjoy the moment, I think? I’m looking forward to having a way better explanation after three months.

I hope you read along,
Luv ya,
Curly
